Embattled Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his wife, Ashley ,will appear on Fox News Monday night to defend him against sexual assault allegations. Kavanaugh will address the two allegations of sexual misconduct that have been leveled against him, as well as his upcoming Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday “and the effect these claims have had on his family,” per the network’s statement. This is a significant departure from precedent—Supreme Court nominees don’t usually do interviews—and again shows how much unexpected trouble Kavanaugh’s nomination is in. By contrast, Kavanaugh’s first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, wrote in her letter to Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley that “I have received an inordinate number of requests to appear on major TV shows to elucidate further information, to which I have not responded.” It’s almost like one of them is interested in the truth and the other is trying to spin the truth to look good.
