Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks—an extremely smart person who recently blamed rising sea levels on “soil or rock or whatever it is that is deposited into the seas”—and his state are suing over the 2020 Census, claiming that «Congressional seats should be apportioned based on the population of American citizens, not illegal aliens. After all, this is America, not the United Nations”: In the lawsuit filed Monday, Alabama argues the predicted 2020 census numbers will cause Alabama to lose a congressional seat, and thus an electoral vote, to a state with a »larger illegal alien population." The state and U.S. Rep Mo Brooks of Alabama are plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed in federal court against the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Census Bureau. But the law states everyone, even gross racists like Mo Brooks, are to be counted. According to the Birmingham Business Journal, Alabama has been experiencing some population growth, so the motivation here might simply be what Republicans like him do during an election year: anti-immigrant fear mongering, because that’s all they know how to do. Of course, they should know better, and Alabama should know this first-hand, after what happened when the state passed anti-immigrant legislation in 2011: Brian Cash can put a figure to the cost of Alabama's new immigration law: at least $100,000. That's the value of the tomatoes he has personally ripening out in his fields and that are going unpicked because his Hispanic workforce vanished literally overnight.
