Bouroullec Brothers Design a Low-cost Minimal Chair

French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec recently unveiled their series of minimal chairs, designed for Danish brand Hay, at the Milan Design Week. The duo was inspired to create “The Elementaire Chair” as an aesthetically appealing alternative to the existing plastic chairs. Though designed to be as simple and inexpensive as a “white T-shirt or blue jeans,” the chair is robust for long-term use while featuring a delicate aesthetic. The Elementaire chair recalls the aluminum Hole chair that the Bouroullecs had designed for Italian furniture brand Cappellini in 1999. Made in polypropylene, the structure has no visible joints, which according to the designers lends “a certain harmony and calmness” to the chairs.“The world is full of plastic chairs with the wrong colors and shapes. We can see it in a lot of beautiful cities in Europe, for example. A nice street with an awful terrace full of pink or light green chairs that totally spoil the place,” Ronan told Dezeen. “People have no problem buying expensive trainers, but they still don't want to buy expensive furniture. We worked to do it at a low-cost. It’s like a white T-shirt or blue jeans, it's a rough chair that you can use everywhere,” he added. “We wanted to use the most efficient way to mass-produce something, and at the same time to create the most beautiful chair, but beautiful in terms of being extremely well-designed. Not too loud, not too shy. Just exactly balanced. A chair that could work in a lot of different contexts,” he continued. The Elementaire chair was launched at the recently held Milan Design Week. http://www.blouinartinfo.com/                           Founder: Louise Blouin

Former Hong Kong Central Police Station to Partially Reopen in May as Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts

A new cultural site in Hong Kong, Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts, formerly the Hong Kong Central Police Station, will partially open to the public with a soft launch on May 25, 2018.The Central Police Station (CPS) Revitalization Project is moving ahead with preparations for the opening of the CPS site, in three phases beginning in mid-2018. The site will be operated as Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts, named after the local colloquial name for the historic compound.Statutory permits and certificates have been obtained for the project following the completion of inspections of 15 historic buildings, the new art gallery, and auditorium buildings and associated structures in the CPS compound. Conservation, restoration, and construction works have been certified by the authorities as having been carried out according to the approved building plans, and meeting the buildings, antiquities protection, and public safety requirements. The revitalization project is led by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) in partnership with the Government of the HKSAR. Comprising a cluster of three declared monuments with a total of 16 historic buildings and outdoor spaces on the 13,600-square-metre site, the project is by far the largest heritage conservation and revitalization project in Hong Kong and the largest such project undertaken by the Club.A series of tests of the facilities have begun, with more trial runs planned for the next few weeks. An opening ceremony is planned for May 25, which will be followed by community days and visits, initially for a limited number of visitors. This will give Tai Kwun an opportunity to fine-tune its operation before the site is fully open. Details of the opening and visit arrangements, programmes, and services for visitors will be announced in due course.Tai Kwun is the local colloquial name used by police officers and the public alike to refer to the former police headquarters and the surrounding CPS compound. The name has been adopted by The Jockey Club CPS Limited for the project as a reminder of the historical importance of the compound.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/                               Founder Louise Blouin

Report: 'Mounting belief' Browns will take Mayfield at No. 1

With just hours to go before we find out which quarterback will be the first one selected in a loaded draft class, it sounds as though the first overall pick may end up being the surprise of the night.ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that there is a “mounting belief” among NFL coaches and front office executives that the Cleveland Browns are going to take Baker Mayfield to kick things off in Arlington. The Browns obviously know who they are going to pick, but they have done a great job of not letting that information leak out to the public. Previous reports indicated that they had narrowed their decision down to Sam Darnold and Josh Allen, with the former being considered the safer choice and the latter possessing a better arm than maybe any QB prospect ever. But if the Browns pick Mayfield, that would be somewhat of a shock. The former Oklahoma star has drawn comparisons to Johnny Manziel, both for his style of play and some of the extracurricular antics he became known for in college. That said, our QB draft ran

Lithuanian coach shades Ball family over departure

The Ball family’s recent departure from Lithuania was apparently on-brand.In an interview with Lithuanian outlet 15min.lt this week, BC Vytautas head coach Virginijus Seskus shaded the Balls over their early exit from his team.“It’s just another proof they came here to make a show, not for basketball,” said Seskus, per Chris Haynes of ESPN. “It’s sad they didn’t understand what we gave them. We understand how they helped us, but they don’t.”Ball brothers LiAngelo and LaMelo had been playing for Vytautas, a pro team in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL), since January. However, Haynes adds that the brothers are both injured and that their departure, which comes with two games left in the LKL season, had the approval of the team.19-year-old LiAngelo, who has his eyes on the 2018 NBA Draft, was only expected to play the one season for Vytautas all along. However, 16-year-old LaMelo was expected to remain with the team for at least another season. For his part, LaVar Ball settled any doubt by saying flat-out t

Allen apologizes after offensive tweets from H.S. surface

Josh Allen will likely be one of the first players selected in Thursday’s NFL Draft, but the team that picks him may have to answer some unexpected questions about the former Wyoming quarterback’s character. On Wednesday, offensive tweets that Allen sent several years ago began going viral. Some of them included racist and homophobic language. The tweets have since been deleted, but not before they were captured by Ryan Young of Yahoo Sports. Here’s what some of them said:“@cheriishhh: i dont think you ni—s want a troubled son!”“@J_Prodigy_5: @Alpha_Patlan (uhh) stay schemin … Ni—s Trying To Get At Me. doe.”“Why are you so white? — If it ain’t white, it ain’t right!”“*punches beaniboy f—–t in throat*”The tweets were written when Allen was in high school and well before he enrolled at Wyoming. He acknowledged them to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith late Wednesday night and said he was “young and dumb” when he sent them. For what it’s worth, one team with a top-five pick in the draft told ESPN’s Adam Schefter they had n

Report: One team has third-round grade on Lamar Jackson, another undrafted

Depending on who you ask, Lamar Jackson could go anywhere from the first 15 picks in the NFL Draft to somewhere in the middle rounds. As far as one team is concerned, the former Heisman Trophy winner shouldn’t be drafted at all. There was a lot of talk leading up to the NFL Scouting Combine about Jackson potentially working out as a wide receiver, and at least one team feels changing positions is his only chance of playing at the NFL level. In discussing the Patriots’ reported interest in Jackson, Jeff Howe of The Athletic was told by sources that one team grades Jackson as a third-round prospect while another has him going undrafted. There’s so much hype that it seems like a lock Jackson will be a first-round pick. But one team, which has leadership figures who hail from the Bill Belichick tree, has a third-round grade on Jackson. With a similar philosophy as the Patriots, would that team’s thinking be all that different from that of Belichick? That will ultimately be answered Thursday night. Another team gra

LeBron scoffs at notion clutch late-game block was goaltending

LeBron James came up with two incredibly clutch plays in the waning moments of Game 5 Wednesday night that sealed the Cleveland Cavaliers’ thrilling 98-95 victory over the Indiana Pacers. There certainly is no disputing the magnificence of James’ cold-blooded three-pointer at the end of regulation. However, there has been much debate over whether or not the play that immediately preceded James’ game-winner should have been called differently. James rose up and blocked Victor Oladipo’s driving reverse layup with 3.3 seconds remaining in the game. No goaltending was called, obviously. Oladipo not surprisingly sees things much differently, stating his case after the game.“Felt like I even got grabbed on the way to the rim,” Oladipo said of the play. “Tried to shoot a layup. Hit the backboard. Then he blocked it. Replays, I guess you guys can see, it was a tough play at the time for him, but, it was a goaltend.” James after the game scoffed at the notion he got away with goaltending. “I definitely thought it was a
