Picking up where White House errand boy Devin Nunes left off, two Freedom Caucus members met with Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein this week to pressure him for documents related to the Russia probe and Hillary Clinton investigation. The Washington Post writes: Rosenstein’s meeting at his office Monday with Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) came days after Meadows, an influential Trump confidant, warned Rosenstein that he could soon face impeachment proceedings or an effort to hold him in contempt of Congress if he did not satisfy GOP demands for documents. Trump and Meadows spoke at some point after the meeting, the three people said, but they declined to share details of the exchange. In recent days, Trump has seethed over the FBI’s raid last week on the home, office and hotel room of his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, which Rosenstein approved. He has also taken note of conservative commentators who have called for Rosenstein to be fired, according to two administration officials who were not authorized to speak publicly. Seethe on, Trump. He's in a pickle. Even if he fires Rosenstein and ignites a nationwide firestorm of protests, it isn't going to make the criminal investigation into his goon Cohen go away. Trump and his allies are also reportedly interested in the the memos that former FBI director James Comey authored about their interactions. Not a problem—Mueller will likely be out with a report on those memos in the next few months.
The Mafia has Omertà, a code that says members will remain stoically silent and go to jail, resting on the tradition that their loyalty to the mob will be rewarded. But those in the organization of Donald Trump know that his loyalty is a one-way street. Today’s senior foreign advisor is tomorrow’s coffee boy. No matter how deeply someone was involved in helping Trump, and no matter how long, he’s prepared to say “I barely knew him.” Donald Trump simply does not pay his bills. Which makes the idea that Trump’s long-time “fixer” could be more than prepared to fix him, seem extremely reasonable. Two sources close to the president said people in Trump’s inner circle have in recent days been actively discussing the possibility that Michael Cohen — long seen as one of Trump’s most loyal personal allies — might flip if he faces serious charges as a result of his work on behalf of Trump. Exactly what Cohen might be charged with isn’t clear. Bank fraud and election violations seem a given, but may not result in the kind of looming threat that would have Cohen dangling over a pit of potential decades behind bars. But … those are not the only potential charges. The FBI team notably took other interesting items from Cohen’s files, including documents going back to his ownership of New York City taxi medallions and his connections with a former Soviet oligarch that predate his involvement with Trump. And some members of Trump’s shrinking circle of un-indicted friends think that whatever Cohen is facing, he’s not going to go out on a limb for Trump. As Politico has reported: Jay Goldberg, a longtime Trump lawyer, told The Wall Street Journal that he spoke with Trump on Friday about Cohen and warned the president against trusting Cohen if he is facing criminal charges. Goldberg said he warned the president that Cohen “isn’t even a 1” on a scale of 1 to 100, where 100 was remaining fully loyal to the president, the newspaper reported.

We are not even a month into the MLB regular season, and one manager has already lost his job.On Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds announced that they are parting ways with manager Bryan Price and pitching coach Mack Jenkins. Bench coach Jim Riggleman will take over as interim manager, with a more thorough search for a permanent replacement to take place later in the year. Price has never really been put in a position to succeed in Cincinnati, but he is taking the fall anyway. The Reds are off to an MLB-worst 3-15 start this year after they finished with 68 or less wins in each of the past three seasons.Price, who treated us to one of the more entertaining near-ejections last year, finishes his Reds career with an overall record of 279-387 and no postseason appearances.
