Renowned design forecaster and curator Lidewij Edelkoort brings together works from Europe’s leading design schools in the exhibition “The Graduate(s)” at Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Le Marais. The exhibition supports and promotes the works of emerging young designers.Edelkoort curated the final exhibition after surveying the work of graduates from more than 50 academies. “A new form of archaeology emerges. Students catalogue this experience by creating new artefacts, remnants for living that are arranged as still lives. A true sense of exploring classic or ancient beauty, rendered in quick gestures and abstract patterns, sporadically using color in hushed harmonies. Furniture is therefore coated to look like stone, a post-fossil idea dreamt up for tomorrow’s Fred Flintstone. Amphorae resemble historical vestiges while bronze is cast into miniature monuments, decorating homes, composing collections and providing spiritual depth for the future,” says Edelkoort. The artists featured at the exhibition include ECAL (Switzerland), École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (France), Royal College of Art (United Kingdom), Royal Danish Design Academy (Denmark), Design Academy Eindhoven (the Netherlands), and LUCA School of Arts (Belgium). The gallery has been proactively working to nurture and promote young talent by providing a creative support structure for developing works and exhibiting them at the gallery. Loïc Le Gaillard, Co-Founder of Carpenters Workshop Gallery, says: ““In striving to constantly rethink and improve our ecosystem, we want to rise young talent to the surface of the art scene. For the world of art to survive, young artists must be placed at the forefront.”The exhibition is on view through January 13, 2018 at Carpenters Workshop Gallery, 54 Rue de La Verrerie, 75004 Paris. For more information, visit: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/carpenters-workshop-gallery-paris/overviewClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
