The Nordspitze community in the northernmost part of Basel’s Dreispitz district will soon boast of three tallest residential buildings in the region. In a recently held competition for designing a new master plan for the community, won by Herzog & de Meuron, the firm unveiled its plan for the mixed-use development that will feature three residential skyscrapers, the tallest being 160 meters. The other two towers will be 135-meters-tall, and together the three buildings will offer 800 residential units in varying sizes. Once complete, the development will be home to nearly 1,400 people and create 400 new jobs, noted ArchDaily. The high-density development will be balanced by large, publically accessible green spaces on two sides. The masterplan also reveals a new pedestrianized green roof for the existing MParc shopping center that sits in the heart of the development. On winning the competition, Herzog & de Meuron commented: “The chance to work on this project is of particular significance for us. It will give us a chance to further manifest the ideas we generated together with Rémy Zaugg in “Eine Stadt im Werden?” in 1991, and our investigations in “Vision Dreispitz” in 2001.”For more information, visit: https://www.herzogdemeuron.com/ Read more
